Volunteer

The Friends are looking for volunteers for all of our projects.  Already, we have over 100 volunteers to help run the booksales and other fundraising activities, but there are many important roles to fill.  Plus, it's a lot of fun and helps out our libraries enormously.  Here are some scenes from our volunteer picnic in September of 2004.

If you are interested in any of our projects, please tell us which one and the way you think you might be able to help. If you can help by volunteering, are you interested in:

An occasional project (depending upon your availability)?

A project on a regular basis? If so, how often would you like to work (monthly, bi-monthly, annually)?

To volunteer, send us an email at volunteer@friendspaloaltolib.org

Donate Used Books

Please donate your books, videos, CDs, and records to us for our monthly sales and redistribution efforts to other non-profit organizations.  Your donations provide others with very low-cost access to reading materials, decrease the burden on our landfills, and yield a tax deduction for you as well.

Donations of up to one bag or box may be taken to any Palo Alto library during regular branch hours.  Please drop off larger donations at:
bulletCubberley Community Center Main Book Sale Room: 4000 Middlefield Road (directions to room), Palo Alto, 650/213-8755, Tuesday through Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm or call for an appointment - Please note: this is the most convenient place for us to receive books
bulletOr, e-mail us at donations@friendspaloaltolib.org or call 650/213-8755 or 650/856-1862.

We also pick up large donations.  Call 650/213-8755.

Whenever you make a donation, be sure to ask for a copy of our receipt:

Contribute towards New Materials for the Library

The tax-deductible Library Collections Fund has been renamed the Library Lovers' Fund to better describe the purpose of this fund, which is to augment the collections for the library beyond that provided by the City of Palo Alto.  All of the proceeds from this Fund go directly to providing additional books, video tapes, CDs, etc. for the library. For donations $25 and over, a bookplate is placed in each item purchased from this fund recognizing the donor and any memorial, "thank you," or other special occasion for the gift.

There are three ways to make a contribution:

  1. Use your credit card via Network for Good, which processes our online donations.  Please use their web site to tell us the reason for your gift.
  2. Use the donation forms available at each library branch.
  3. Send a check payable to the "Friends of the Palo Alto Library" to P. O. Box 41, Palo Alto, CA 94302-0041, with a note telling us the reason for the gift, such as a memorial, a "thank you", or just to improve the collections in our libraries.
