Downtown Library Literary Events
The bookmark below
shows how the Downtown Library was once a vital center for author and
literary discussions. Famous authors like Ken Kesey and Larry
McMurtry appeared (together!) at informal booktalks open to all at no cost.
In those days, the
Downtown Library had two large community rooms available during library hours.
These spaces and the adjacent restrooms could also be used on evenings when the
library itself was closed. Both of those community rooms were lost when
administrative offices moved into the building, supposedly only for a short
time. However, city staff plans to continue to occupy these rather than
return them to the public.
