Palo Alto Library Centennial Celebration
In the 1890's, a Free Reading Room of the Woman's Club of Palo Alto served as
Palo Alto's only library. In 1902, the Woman's Club petitioned the City to
assume responsibility for a public library, creating the Palo Alto Library from
which our community continues to reap great benefit.
One hundred years later, on April 28, 2002, Palo Alto celebrated the
centennial of the library at a huge party attended by library staff, government
officials, volunteers, the press, and the general community. Here are some
glimpses of the event:
